did Hamlet love Ophelia?

We had no prior knowledge to Hamlets affection towards Ophelia until Laertes was leaving and gave Ophelia a "talk" on how she needs to stay away from Hamlet and then another time when she tells Polonius that Hamlet has interest in her. After Hamlet has gone mad, Polonius assumes that it is because of Ophelia. When he tries to prove to the king that the reason is because of his love to his daughter, he sets Ophelia up with Hamlet. When she encounters him, she wishes to give back his tokens. Hamlet denies giving her anything. He claims to have loved her once, and never to have loved her at all!!! That was the only time in the book so far that Hamlet himself actually says anything about his love to Ophelia.
